Amber Fort above Maota lake, the main stop on the Jaipur city tour

Jaipur City Sightseeing

The standard full day around Jaipur, run on our 8 hour / 80 km local package. That is genuinely enough for the city — the monuments are close together and the driving between them is short. What eats the day is queues and photographs, not distance.

The day

Where you go, in order

  1. 1

    Amber Fort

The main event, 11 km north of the city. Allow two to three hours. The jeep or elephant ride up to the gate is arranged there and is not part of our fare.

  2. 2

    Jal Mahal

A ten-minute photo stop at the lake palace on the way back from Amber. Nobody goes inside; you cannot.

  3. 3

    Hawa Mahal

The honeycomb façade in the old city. Most people photograph it from the street opposite, which is the better view anyway.

  4. 4

    City Palace & Jantar Mantar

Next door to each other in the walled city. Two hours covers both comfortably.

  5. 5

    Albert Hall & Bapu Bazaar

The museum and the shopping, if there is day left. A good place to end.

Jaipur City Sightseeing: questions people ask

How many monuments can we realistically cover in one day?

Five or six done properly. Amber Fort alone takes two to three hours. People who try to add Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Galtaji on the same day end up seeing nine car parks, and we would rather tell you that before you book than after.

Are the Amber Fort and Nahargarh entry tickets included in the price?

No. Every monument ticket is paid at the gate and is not in our fare. There is a composite ticket covering several Jaipur monuments that usually works out cheaper — ask the driver, he will know the current price.

Is the hill fort surcharge charged for Nahargarh and Jaigarh?

Yes, ₹300 per fort. Both are steep climbs that are hard on a vehicle and slow going. It is not hidden anywhere: it is on the fare card, it appears on your estimate the moment you tick it, and it is only charged if the itinerary actually includes them.

Does the driver act as a guide inside the monuments?

No, and we would not pretend otherwise. Our drivers know the city and will tell you what is worth your time, but they are not licensed guides and do not go inside with you. Official guides are available at Amber and the City Palace.

What happens if we run past the 8 hour package?

Extra hours and extra kilometres are charged at your vehicle's published rate — ₹150 an hour for a Dzire, up to ₹350 for a tempo traveller, and the per-kilometre rate beyond 80 km. The driver will tell you when you are approaching the limit rather than letting it run up quietly.
